Microsoft Teams Not Loading or Stuck: Fixes

Short answer: Teams getting stuck on a loading screen is often fixed by clearing its cache or signing out and back in.

TL;DR: quick fix
  1. Check if Teams is down for everyone.
  2. Fully quit Teams (right-click the taskbar/menu bar icon > Quit), then reopen it.
  3. Try Teams on the web at teams.microsoft.com.

Is Microsoft Teams down?

Before you change settings, check Microsoft 365 Service health. If there's an outage, wait it out.

How to fix it: step by step

  1. Check whether Teams is down for everyone: look at status.cloud.microsoft or Microsoft 365 Status on X and recent posts from the service's official status account before changing anything on your device.
  2. Fully quit Teams (right-click the taskbar/menu bar icon > Quit), then reopen it.
  3. Try Teams on the web at teams.microsoft.com. If it works there, the problem is local.
  4. Clear the cache for new Teams on Windows: Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options > Reset. (Your chats are stored in the cloud.)
  5. Sign out, restart your computer, and sign back in.
  6. Update Windows/macOS and reinstall Teams if needed.

FAQ

Will resetting Teams delete my chats?

No. Chats and files are stored in Microsoft 365, not in the local cache.
