Teams Notifications Not Working: How to Fix

Short answer: Missed Teams messages are usually caused by notification settings in Teams, Focus/Do Not Disturb on your device, or your Teams status.

TL;DR: quick fix
  1. In Teams, go to Settings > Notifications and activity and make sure chat and mention notifications are on.
  2. Check your Teams status.
  3. On Windows, turn off Do Not Disturb/Focus and allow notifications for Teams in Settings > System > Notifications.

Is Microsoft Teams down?

Before you change settings, check Microsoft 365 Service health. If there's an outage, wait it out.

How to fix it: step by step

  1. In Teams, go to Settings > Notifications and activity and make sure chat and mention notifications are on.
  2. Check your Teams status. "Do not disturb" suppresses notifications except from priority contacts.
  3. On Windows, turn off Do Not Disturb/Focus and allow notifications for Teams in Settings > System > Notifications.
  4. On macOS, check System Settings > Notifications > Microsoft Teams and Focus settings.
  5. On mobile, allow notifications in your phone settings and note that Teams may hold mobile notifications while you're active on desktop.

FAQ

Why do I get notifications on my computer but not my phone?

By default Teams may not send mobile notifications while you're active on desktop. This can be changed in the mobile app's notification settings.
