iPhone Not Charging? Try These Fixes

Short answer: Most iPhone charging problems come from the cable, adapter, a dirty port, or a software setting called Optimized Battery Charging.

TL;DR: quick fix
  1. Try a different cable and power adapter you know work, and a different wall outlet.
  2. Inspect the charging port with a flashlight.
  3. Force restart: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears (iPhone 8 and later).

Is iPhone down?

Before you change settings, check Apple System Status. If there's an outage, wait it out.

How to fix it: step by step

  1. Try a different cable and power adapter you know work, and a different wall outlet.
  2. Inspect the charging port with a flashlight. If lint is packed inside, power off and gently remove it with a wooden toothpick; avoid metal objects.
  3. Force restart: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears (iPhone 8 and later).
  4. If charging stops at 80%, check Settings > Battery > Charging; Optimized Battery Charging or an 80% limit may be pausing it intentionally.
  5. If you see "Liquid Detected", unplug and let the phone dry before charging.
  6. Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If the battery needs service, contact Apple Support or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

FAQ

Why does my iPhone stop at 80%?

Optimized Battery Charging or the 80% Limit setting delays charging past 80% to reduce battery wear. It is a feature, not a fault.
