Spotify App Crashing or Not Opening: Fix

Short answer: If Spotify crashes, freezes, or shows "Something went wrong", Spotify's quick fix is to restart, update, then reinstall the app.

TL;DR: quick fix
  1. Restart the Spotify app.
  2. Update Spotify, and update your device's operating system.
  3. Close other apps you aren't using, and make sure your device has at least 250MB of free memory.

Is Spotify down?

Spotify has no public status page. If friends on other networks see the same problem, it's probably an outage: wait and retry.

How to fix it: step by step

  1. Restart the Spotify app.
  2. Update Spotify, and update your device's operating system.
  3. Close other apps you aren't using, and make sure your device has at least 250MB of free memory.
  4. Make sure your internet connection is stable, or switch networks.
  5. Reinstall Spotify. Note: you'll need to re-download any downloaded music and podcasts afterwards.
  6. Check @SpotifyStatus on X or Spotify's Community "Ongoing Issues" board for known problems; on Android, try removing the SD card if Spotify stores downloads there.
